Flip the eccentrics so the axle is at the bottom, drop the front forks a bit. Mine has been like that since I got it in 2005, and it has no issue going where I point it. And Dave, yeah mine is the exact same bike, albeit with a few extra bits on it. Same color and everything.
Had the same thought when I first got it, and definitely did not help. I've tried a few different combinations, pretty much every suspension setting possible, and nothing really helps with the turn in. I picked it up REALLY cheap ($3600 with 8k miles and spotless), and I've always question whether maybe it had been in a wreck and fixed. I've put a string on it to check center, and nothing seems tweaked. Rebuilt the forks and checked the runout in a lathe and it was zilch. I suppose I could spoon some Pilots on it and see if that fixes it, but damn tires are expensive these days.
Street only? 1290SD hands down. If you don't get off this bike with a stupid grin on your face something is wrong with you. full Akra makes beautiful noises (and no airbox). Upright ergos make it easy to ride all day, and just fun to ride. Mix in some dirt (well, a lot of dirt) and my KTM 950 Super Enduro is fun. Hooligan bike on the pavement, but able to rip with the best of them when it gets dirty or gravel.
Thanks a ton. Now I’m looking for one with plans on how to totally ruin it. Those Showa forks off of the wsbk bike my buddy has, adjustable triples, a loud as f exhaust. . . Paint it metal flake blue like a 60s dune buggy. at least I didn’t mod my 851 to ruin it when I had it because it was a pile of shit stock.
If any of you ZRX fan boys are looking for a supremely well set up one, my buddy up here in BC is selling his.
I still want one. I kick myself for not getting one that I had the chance to pick up for cheap pre-Covid.
Mine didn’t want to turn in unless you were at least at Maintenance throttle before the fork spring replacement. Kinda counterintuitive but that’s the way it was. Forget about turning in on the brakes… With the springs it’s a different bike. I still need to upgrade the suspension on it actually, did the spring swap in 2010 or so.
Fj1200 Kind of like an old Crown Vic. Comfortable, supple suspension, plenty of torque. Pretty fast when you wanted it.
I don't see his listing any longer and he's in Italy with his wife until Sunday - I'll message him in a couple days to see if it's still posted or not.
24 XSR900 and an 06 Connie are my current two bikes. XSR is for the usual weekend loops and the connie is for everything over a couple hundred miles/getting groceries. Both have made excellent street bikes. The yamaha makes handfuls of usable torque and is sub 430lb. The kawasaki pulls weight like a semi truck and you can ride it from sunup to sundown. ^^The moto camping rig at RA for the MA round a couple weeks ago
The front is an 18", the 16" is on the rear. Relatively easy to find a modern tire for the front, that picture has the Road 6 I put on the week before. The 16" you've basically only got cruiser tires left nowadays (michelin commander/shinko 777 etc). I've also seen some older bias ply touring tires like the pirelli sport demon here and there online.
All FJ's came with a 16" rear. The 1100's and 86/87 1200 had a 120/80-16 front and later models got a 120/70-17 front. I have helped a few fj club members swap in a 17" rear which the mod is well documented online with several options
