Who else thought after watching the 3KTM Amigos battle in the Sprint race in Barcelona today that they had just seen the best battle of the day? Then I switched to World Supersport and holy shit! I am prepared to call it and face the consequences: that was some Edwards-Bayliss Imola 2002 shit. Yeah, I said it.
Well shit, I haven’t watched SS in a couple years but that’s a mighty bold claim sir. I may just have to give it a watch this evening.
It was REALLY good. Not quite sure I'm ready to group it with Imola. But definitely a killer race. It was absolutely more exciting than the commentators made it sound. They sounded rather unamused for most of it which was disappointing lol.
Imola get a boost from being the final round of the Championship. But if you don't know how many rounds there are left, I'm not sure it's that much better than this one.
I watched it do to all the fan-girling here but it didn't live up to the hype, at all. Good race, but nowhere near the Imola in terms of excitement/drama/stakes. Helluva comeback on the last lap though for sure.
In fairness, I've been following the championship. This might be the piece you guys are missing to fully process the enjoyment level of that race. I forgive you. In all seriousness, you guys know Oncu's arm was fucked up to a considerable extent even on the Marquez scale, right? It's amazing to see him race at this level this year.
World SSP was a really good race, if it would have been the last race of the year for the title, then it might be worthy of all-time consideration. I think the AMA 600 final from 2000 at Willow Springs was a better race and it had championship implications. I suppose there is some bias for the AMA race because of my familiarity with the riders.
