World Moto Clash?

Shipping concerns for a spec series? That doesn't come into play, you belly up and get the shit here for the series or get in big trouble. Don't ask me I know it well.
Do they have enough NY rears to get thru the end of the year? Do they have extra to sell to the club race tire vendors to get thru this season? There's the GNF & Daytona in just 6 weeks besides the west coast races and here in the mid-west.

You know, they have the data, they know what they need.

My first guess is they have a captive audience and have several hundred thousand dollars in tires that they don’t want to take a loss on. If I were running that company, that’s exactly what I would do. I would use up all the old stuff before I built anything new.
Exactly - Hanging on to any of that aged inventory is bad business.

These points come to mind.
How many times over the years have we heard on the beep club racers bitching about 2 year old tires?
On a recent "Ask a SB genius" Richard comented that they only get 14 tires per rider. And because of that each rider uses one set all day on Friday to make sure they have enough for the weekend. Sounds weird and shouldn't they make a rule change mid-season to alow a SB rider to buy 1 or 2 more?
It's not cheap to staff a spec tire race event and the tire logistics costs are huge. So selling more helps to pay the bills right?
And you can't use all of the old stuff up without bringing in new tires to test before you run out.
The NY factory closed Nov 2024, so what's plan before they run out of rears?

As I remember the Pirelli warehouse in GA probably has 500,000 m/c, truck, and car tires right now and everyday.
You can't all sell them, and yes you practice FIFO but most tire companies budget X amount to scrap and write off that aged product
Or before they are almost aged you discount the product or offer rebates to move them?

RTS did that in the past where you could get 1 front and 2 years for $XXX. I want to say they were switching to new compound or something, can't remember.

If they tried to run that same stock next year, I imagine that that the teams would likely have a revolt. Racing on 3 year old rears is a bit much to expect from a professional series.

Now I'm not a 1000 so I won't need them, but I have no doubt there will be some other chump running $100 Buffalo rears into the 2030s.:D

@Dave K can you make a new thread titled something like “race tire drama”

I think this ignores having a cap on the number of tires to keep operating costs down for the riders / teams since not all of them are factory-supported with big budgets.

I wonder if Bridgestone isn't doing just that. They currently offer 2 rears and a front for $550, but only in a 200, and only in the extra soft compound.

Huh? Please elaborate, thx
You said there's a cap on 14 tires per rider per weekend, but Richard said he'd use more if more were available to buy / allowed, and you suggested it would make sense to sell teams more tires. The reason there's a 14-tire cap per rider isn't because a tire manufacturer can't make more tires though, it is to try to cap costs and equalize opportunity for teams regardless of the depth of their budget. Richard (and other factory-supported teams) could afford to use 30 tires per weekend, but a privateer cannot.

Ok understand now
Richard said other teams and his riders have to ride on 1 set all of Friday practice to save tires to make sure they can win the race on Sunday. So can MA help the teams by adding 1 or 2 more tires to the allocation?
Why do they need 1 or 2 more?
MotoGP allows 1 rider 22 dry tires for a race
weekend
Moto2 allows 17 dry tires for a rider's weekend
WSBK allows 21 dry tires for for a SBK rider's weekend. As I have found on Google

But all of these are professional race series, and to be blunt factory or privateer racer you have to pay to play, right?

Part of the issue is testing. Attack in particular tests more than the others. But even with that, the still could use 1-2 more sets for the long practice and qualifier to get the bikes dialed in.

I'm not doubting more tires could be used, but it is the same reason why MA went to spec electronics and a spec tire in general. The idea is to level the playing field beyond just budget. No one really wants to just see who can spend more money, we want to see close racing with a field of more than 8 bikes in it. If privateers get priced out of MA racing, then the racing gets boring and the series / sport suffer.

Now, if you are saying MA should "give" <aka for free> 1 or 2 more sets of tires and absorb those costs themselves to give teams an equal improvement in having new tires available for ever session, I could support that. I don't think they hav the budget or inclination to consider it, but I could see that benefit.

<or>

If MA is able to find other ways to reduce a team's annual operating costs to offset the added costs of more tires, I could see that working too.

I'm just not in support of solely adding to a team's operaing costs to participate for a season.

Maybe I misheard that, but to me it sounded like Richard's preference is to not "toss a tire in there" on the Friday because he doesn't see the benefit to it. Richard's statement was that his riders stay on the same tire on Friday to a) save a tire for morning warm-up to have the opportunity to try a change prior to the second or the last race and b) getting race distance wear data on the tires. He didn't say his riders have to use 1 set; he prefers it and doesn't understand why the other teams always "toss a tire in there."

Moto GP teams don't pay for their tires, but WSBK, Moto2, and Moto3 do. The tire allocation also sounds like a negotiation lever between the tire manufacture and the series promoter. Which likely means the tire allocation isn't optimized for overall performance. Instead it's optimized around an agreeable financial break even between the tire manufacture and the series promotor. It's all about the money baby.

damn... one weekend of their tires would cover a nut on my entire season, when I would attempt to run a full season. I can't wrap my wittle head around that kinda money!.
Shittn in high cotton as we use to say! When you bust your ass a few times on a Sat. trying to save new rubber for Sun. you stop that shit, and pony up for new shoes!

I remember running almost entire seasons on Bryce's take-offs cause a new tire wouldn't have done me much better. I'd still win club races on those take-offs, but a new tire prob would've been a 0.2sec lap difference which was mostly irrelevant. That's club racing though.
