Saw this auction about to end on Iconic motorbikes. Looking at the condition the price seems low. Not sure if it will boom in the roughly 1/2 hour that is left, but thought I'd post it and we'll see how it ends up... 1986 GSX-R 750 Limited Edition (Canada) https://iconicmotorbikeauctions.com/auction/1986-suzuki-gsx-r750-limited-edition-8/
Didn't make reserve. I guess they are being "told" by the bidding that they need to do the work to get it running. Or maybe the bottom has dropped out of the old GSX-R market. More spare parts for me! Other than the not running part (I'd guess there is nothing seriously wrong there, but would rather not pay to find out), that looks like a nice, stock one compared to many lesser ones that sold for double or even triple the last bid.
High bid is $9600? Hmmm, I always wanted another one and regret selling mine. Think I can haggle with them?
Crazy thing about these.Alot sat on showroom floors for the msrp back then.We had one at Gainesville Mtrsprts. for I know well over a yr. It got scratched all to hell with folks climbing on it.I can't even remember what they sold for? Boy hindsight!! The RC 30 is my Holy Grail Coulda bought a friends for $8500 and passed
Mine sat in the showroom window at the dealer for a year (no one could play with it or sit on it fortunately). I had bought a "regular" GSX-R from the sales manager at the dealership and rode with him on Sunday group rides. On one of those rides he said that the new 87's were coming in and they needed to get rid of the limited. He sold my GSX-R and made me a long deal on it. I always wanted an RC-30 as well, but they have always been out of my price range. If I had a chance when they are "used bikes" a few years old to get one, I probably would have bitten. But in these pre-mass-internet days, if you didn't stumble across something or look really hard, nothing was just going to "show up". This one is stock with airbox and stock exhaust. If it ran well (and maybe was a US model), it is a valuable one in that condition. It is unrestored.
That's pretty much the story of how I got mine except no group rides and I had bought a GSXR750 and a 1100 the first year of them.
The LTD gixxers and the 87/88 FZR750R units were limited racers that just never got the main stream love they deserve.
