I used a large breaker bar and was quite gentle, but two of the rotor bolt mounts broke off (but you can see there was some dust that came with them, so I wouldn't be shocked if they were welded/JB welded before). Anywho, I REALLY don't want to have to buy another hub and lace this wheel (because I made the wheel tubeless using goop and tape), so wondering if this is fixable. I don't care about ever having to remove the rotor in the future, and would definitely do a fix that meant that the rotor was permanently attached to the hub and if it ever was worn down that'd require a new hub.
It's only your braking system, so not particularly critical. More JB weld and update your health insurance deductibles.
New hub. Also as mentioned...heat and impact...even a socket and hammer to shock it. Loctite doesnt stand heat well. Name change request to SuddenBreaking for OP please.
I'm pretty sure those were already broken - I'm pretty ham handed with tools, but I don't think this was a me problem. And I hear you guys and know that replacing it is the answer, but I'm gonna fuck around with some JB weld and see what that does and then make the call from there. I mean, I've got two out of the four bolts that still work so the other two are almost just decorative
Here's the dust that came off - not sure if that's welding residue or JB Weld residue, but it's not normal. So somebody at some point asked a forum what he should do and those people told him to send it
Please tell me you're trolling. Please. Tell me. Even if you're not. Tell me anyway. Or just be certain to crash all by yourself when it fails, okay? You know, just to avoid the inevitable intentional negligence lawsuit that will be using this thread for evidence against you. SMMFH
The red dust is from either red loctite someone used or it is the residue from the thread locker that came on the original bolts. That wasn’t jb weld.
If the broken tabs were diagonal, maybe. They're side by side. So what's going to happen is if you do manage to weld it: The hub's going to be out of balance and distorted. It will probably warp the rotor when you bolt it together. JB Weld is going to break either the first time you hammer the brake or the first time the rotor gets hot and cools.
it sucks but a new wheel with sweet hubs is the answer. Hub is $180ish... spokes $130 & rim should be ~ $100ish.
