Steve died after suffering a heart attack this morning. After Steve retired from racing he became an ordained minister and devoted himself to spreading his faith. His Steve Wise Ministry:Moto Fellows FB page has over 2,600 followers and he shared live services regularly. For those of you youts, Steve was a south Texas MX phenom in the middle '70 who's early rides in the AMA 125 class were with Moto-X Fox and went on to join Team Honda, winning many MX and SX races for them. Steve went on to win multiple AMA Superbike nationals, the ABC Superbikers race and podium at the 1982 Houston Astrodome GNC TT race on a CR500, all while riding factory Honda bikes. Steve continued his friendship with most all of his racing friends throughout his lifetime. His family asked my friend Warren Reid to share the news with his racing friends. You can search for his tribute post on FB. Race in peace my friend. https://www.mshf.com/Steve-Wise-10-1607784.html http://hof.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame/detail.aspx?RacerID=295
Supertrackers LEGEND!!! nobody expected him to beat the best of the best and he did!! yall YouTube ABC SuperBikers if you never have basically they threw a track together and each manufacturer brought several riders they had hears for road racers Moto racers and road racers. everyone expected the Flat track and road racers to dominate and Steve was on like a CR500 with old road race tires.
I promoted the 1982 season finale AMA Superbike National at Moroso Motorsports Park. The championship was going to be won by either Eddie Lawson on a Factory Kawasaki or Mike Baldwin on the Factory Honda. Lawson was leading by several points and Baldwin only had a slight chance. But Steve Wise on his Factory Honda was the fastest guy all weekend and was leading the race but near the end he faded back to second and Baldwin won it. Lawson finished 5th or 6th and won the championship. But everyone knew that Steve Wise was the fastest guy there on that day. He was one heck of a motorcycle racer and one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. RIP
Nice write up by Cycle News contributor Kent Taylor after he interviewed my friend Warren Reid, a long time friend of Steve's. https://magazine.cyclenews.com/i/1542841-cycle-news-2026-issue-04-january-27/128?
