I'm sure this has been covered, but I can't find it... I know the ULW rules say no dry breaks, but what can be done within the rules do refill faster without a huge mess? I looked at the latest results and some of the pit stops were WAY faster than I'd imagine with a regular old fuel jug/spout... Are the Tuff Jugs spouts allowed? They're basically a mini dry break.
We use a 1” copper pipe in the end of a larger diameter FIL tube on a can that has a large breather. We did not need to trim the filler at the tank as the 1” copper pipe fits perfectly. One person holds a towel around the tank and pay attention when filling and nothing will get past the towel when filled. Amazingly fast. Stop by Chasing Shade pit as CMP and check it out if you like.
We put a modified tuff jug spout on a corny keg and rider removes the gas cap while they get off and on. It times pretty close to the dry break setups but it's taken a lot of effort to balance air fuel transfer.
So the Tuff Jug spout is legal? What's the diameter of the spout? I see they offer an adapter for smaller openings but I can't find anywhere that says what the different sizes are.
No rules against using different styles of spouts including those that act like a dry break. I'd love to require dry breaks on everything but that kind of kills the ULW being a cheaper way to have fun and get into endurance.
The normal spout is about 1.5 inches in diameter and 1.5 long. The long adapter will bring the diameter down to 1.1 and 0.8 inches and the grapefruit adapter in the prior picture brings the spout length down to about half inch. the opening will drop about an inch into the tank so you might need the adapter id you've got that weird metal tab some bikes have.
That's probably in the big box o' crap that I told the seller I didn't want... I've already got decades worth of stock SV and other crap taking up space
does that style spout work with the tanks that have the metal tab that blocks the tank entry? I need something that works with one like this
There's an adapter that I know will work that's pictured above. Just search 'Tuff Jug Adapter' and it'll pop up. I dont know if it will work without it though as every tank has its annoyances so you'd have to measure it all out.
You can bash that out of the way with a brass rod, or go at it with a cutoff wheel if you remove the pump and empty the tank of fumes. either by letting it dry over time or running an inert gas into it.
