My local Yamaha dealer has a blue one for sale. It's currently tagged for msrp plus shipping so a little over 13k. He's had it while and may be willing to deal...didn't ask.
Just spent three days ripping around Laguna Seca on mine...still nearly stock and absolutely loving it!
Are any of you R9 guys above 6'2" ? I tried out an R9 at Laguna Seca and my feet and legs were totally squished - I could hardly shift or feel comfortable. But what an amazing machine! My feet are size 13 and I'm 6'2 1/2". If I was 5'8" I would buy it immediately. Anyhow I'll be happy with my Suzuki 400 Supermoto - plenty of room on that machine.
I'm 6'0 and could stand flat footed stock with a little slouch. After adding the link, swinmgarm, and race seat, I am now just shy of being on my toes.
I'm 6'-1" and started out with the stock pegs in the low position, nice and roomy. But was dragging my toes too much so raised them to the high position +15mm. Took a minute to get used to, but feels good now. If I raised the pegs any higher I'd raise the seat to match.
I’m going to have a few race parts for sale in a couple days if interested. Nothing used.. Just stuff we fitted but didn’t end up using
I have no budget, am still paying for this year... but that doesn't mean I'm not race bits curious...
Merry Christmas. What’re yall doing for crash protection? The four piece GB case cover kit seems to be most comprehensive. Is it different from the MT09 stuff?
Pretty sure it’s the same since it’s the same engine. It’s not crash protection, but best thing is to have left and right controls mounted on clip on bars. If you go down, the left hand control is very susceptible to breakage. Jet Prime just came out with the switches and throttle which look more robust. I’ll post up how they work when they arrive.
The left hand, its big. The right side is about the same as a usual race switch. https://www.wrs.it/en/handlebar-swi...-switch-yamaha-yzf-r9-2025-8050247965589.html
Haven’t been on the track in several years, but instructed at VIR for 10 years. The wife and I had dinner with a couple that does track days together and that discussion planted the seed again. Called my local dealer and asked about R1/R9 availability and she laughed at first. But she went in to check the dealer Yamaha availability site, and lo and behold they had a blue R9 that can be here in 3-4 weeks. Put a deposit down on it and here we go again. Never rode one before but if all the videos and reviews are accurate, I’m stoked to get it!
Happy to help if you have any questions. Probably the most important, is be very careful with the left and right controls. They aren't realy friendly to crash damage so you may want to go ahead and order a set of spares.
Thanks for the tip! Once the bike gets here I’ll order a set of spares. I’ll message you with other questions about the bike. Thanks for the help.
