Whoa. It appears Newey has now made the Aston the best car on the grid. Given how close they were to the front with the drivers they have there is no doubt it’s better than all others. Looks like a certainty Max will be replacing Alonso in 2027 now. 2026 might be the last for both Hamilton and Alonso at this rate
When your entire performance is largely tied to how the air is managed around the car do you really want to give up the guy that is better at it than everyone else. Seems like a dumb plan to me.
Not sure I would want to work with him though. The guy sees the wind so well he’d know every time I farted. Seriously, I’m not sure any front running team could offer him what he wanted though. As much as he was being paid, and could command, he knew the real money was in F1 ownership. Offering stakes in any of the leading teams was prohibitively expensive. Those teams ownership is way more valuable than Aston was and Newey wasn’t going to increase the teams value much. Pappa Stroll could offer a stake in a flailing team and inevitably when Newey makes them a front running and lures Max with a competitive car, Strolls remaining ownership stake is worth more than his full stake before he gave some to Newey.
Newey literally steps out of the room and retreats to another office whenever they discuss the 2025 Aston Martin around him. He wants nothing to do with it and doesn't want it to influence what he's doing for 2026. Whatever they found, it must be the guys who were there before.
Doesn't take much, but I'm confused as I don't follow F1 as closely as most in this thread, but is Newey leaving Aston Martin?
Source? Are you in the office or was there an interview I could read? Newey might currently be sticking his fingers in his ears but no way he didn’t impart some knowledge on the staff when he came in initially. Maybe they are refining that newish knowledge or maybe he pops in from time to time and drops another knowledge bomb and walks away for them to develop. Based on the step changes we saw earlier and again now, it’s unlikely the original staff is doing it on their own. Possible yes but unlikely with a guy like Newey in the same office. Q3 was crazy. Times were slower than Q2. Top 6 separated by a tenth and top 10 by half a second.

No doubt Newey is great, but there were a lot of years between Vettel’s championship and Verrstappen’s and Newey designed everyone of those losing cars. He isn’t an instant miracle worker and wouldn’t have affected this year much at all IMO.
They asked Zax Brown if would try and sign Newey . He said "We don't need Adrian Newey" McLaren boss Zak Brown: We don’t need Adrian Newey! This was confirmed by McLaren boss Zak Brown in an interview with the BBC, who said: “We will not be signing Adrian.” “I’m very happy with the team. Adrian is a great friend and has enormous talent. His CV is second to none. But I couldn’t be happier with everything we already have.” https://www.sportsoftheday.com/mclaren-boss-zak-brown-we-dont-need-adrian-newey/
I have never heard a “Champion” in any sport at any level say the self condescending stuff he did. Does he actually want pity? Do everyone a favor and retire. I wonder if self pity is part of his “Winning Mindset Class” that he sells. Lol
I get where he's coming from but he has a different personality than most. He is intensely driven but remains gentle inside and self conscious. Max is the opposite but still driven. Most of us are in the middle. Both Louis and Max are super critical of the smallest details, even in themselves. Sounds whiny at times tho. Not many sports you can watch 13 years of championships competing.
