Anthonys for sure, especially if it has any of the funky Alpinestars color in it. They have redone two of my A* Kangaroo suits and they come back looking brand new
I didn't spring for Anthony's full restoration as they quoted me $500+ for that (not really prudent to spend given it's a $1200 suit at FC Moto and I'll probably muck it up again). I'm waiting to hear the final bill on bare bones structural/functional repair (should be $170?). I have their cleaning and conditioning kit so I'm going to clean off more when it gets back and throw some conditioner and water repellent on it and call it a day. TA10 came back for the post deploy recharge, was only in their possession a week so that's a pretty good turnaround. Arrived uncharged and my LED status lights aren't turning on but maybe the remote is still too low
Oddly, after leaving it on the shelf for 10 days or so, with the led display on the belt, plugging it in again started the display working again.
I just got a TA 5 and no issues with charging it and turning it on . The Tech Air App on the other hand is complete garbage. On my primary phone (android) it fails to allow me to add the vest which means I can't switch it from street to race mode or use the other features. I was able to get it to connect on my work phone (apple) but that is a less than ideal situation.
On my Android I have to connect twice, on the 2nd try it works. Did you try force closing the app and re-opening? (not just hitting home and re-opening, go to app settings and force close)
I don't think I force closed it. I'll give it a try and see if it makes a difference. I did remove the app and reloaded it, restarted my phone, and tried multiple times to connect and nothing worked. I'll try the force close.
I got it figured out. I went into Settings - Apps and changed the permissions to allow it to connect to nearby devices. I don't recall it asking me that when I set up the app but maybe it did and I missed it. After doing that it finally let me add the vest and it connected to it without issue.
Spoke with one of the alpinestars reps at cota this weekend and learned that the new 2023 absolute suit has a liner designed to have the tech air 10 system zip into it (like the tech air race) to alleviate the issues getting into and out of suits with the bulky new 10. If it works well hopefully the third party suit manufacturers start making their tech air ready suits in the same manner. They are aware of the teething issues of the 10 since its release and he said they made improvements to the software to make it more reliable hopefully.
That's fantastic news. I'm a huge believer in the Tech Air 10 after highsiding in it at the NW200 and springing right to my feet without missing a beat. I just can't do the two-suit thing.
I just received my Tech Air 10 last night and have had no luck getting it to activate at all, pairing it with my phone has not been very successful either. I was told the reason they were on backorder was to fix these types of issues. Looks like they have not.
Has anyone had a custom suit measured and made around the tech air 10? I’m going to get measured for a Bison suit soon and am trying to decide between the 10 and the race. The 10 saves money since the suit doesn’t need to be made to work with it like the Race, but if it’s a hassle getting the suit on and off all the time, I’d rather go with the Race.
Apologies for reviving an old tread, but there is a firmware update that was pushed out at the end of last month. The update seriously changes how the Tech Air 10 operates. It was confusing until I called Alpinestars support. I thought my suit was malfunctioning again and that I would need another RMA. Once the update is applied, the belt closing no longer arms the system. Rather, the suit is now armed by docking the wireless LED display in the recharging area and then removing it. You can read the details here https://www.alpinestars.com/pages/product-manuals under the article named Tech-Air® 10 System and WLED Firmware Update. Some other tidbits; Per support, the app has a bug that may show you need a software or firmware update. If the versions are current, just ignore the update badge that is shown in the settings icon of the app. I have an Android. Not sure if iPhones have the same issue. My suit went back to Alpinestars in August for repair. The issue was that the sensor in the kidney belt was not arming the system. The tailor had to fix whatever was broken. Support said that if you had difficulty with the update, you could open a case with them. It sounds like they have a method to apply the update if you send the suit in for repair. Just a guess here, the belt sensor failing may have been a common problem. The change in functionality may be intended to address the issue. I like the approach, but if you aren't aware of the change, the LED sequence is different and it could appear to a user that the suit is malfunctioning. Not everyone reads product bulletins, and this is a major change. Hopefully, this helps others who may be confused.
forgot to update this thread, looks like we finally have a true successor to the tech air race coming - https://www.cyclenews.com/2024/01/article/alpinestars-tech-air-7x-technical-preview/
Thats exactly what A-Stars tech told me after I had the belt issue friday before a race weekend, when I was sitting in the waiting room getting a new T-10.
I'm curious if anyone else has experience with both the 10 and the 7x. I am now two trackdays in with my Tech Air 10, and the back protector seems to not play well with the shape of my back - there's a large, swollen bruise on my spine where my lower back hits the back protector - it's incredibly uncomfortable to the point where I eventually just took it off and I don't think I'll wear it again. I'm not sure whether it's just the shape of the back protector, or if potentially my suit is too small to fit the system underneath it - though the hotspot is very localized. Alpinestars has offered to swap me for a 7x, but I'm not sure if I should expect this to be any more comfortable. Wondering if anyone has experienced any similar problems, or can comment on the shape of the back protectors between the 10 and the 7x? Thanks
I thought I would throw my recent experience in here. I purchased a new Tech Air 10 in July. It showed up early August(that's fine, I waited long enough to order one, I can wait) with the latest firmware already installed. The first weekend went well after I figured out how to make it work with my suit. On the second weekend, I came off track after my first(and only of the weekend due to technical issues) race and it was powered off. I had charged it overnight and I was darn sure I had powered it on, but it was working just fine now. Maybe I hadn't actually turned it on? Fast forward to this last weekend, I put it on charge all day friday but noticed the glowing light didn't come on. Saturday morning, it turned on and armed, then flashed red and immediately turned back off. Tried putting it on several different chargers with no luck. I couldn't get 3 full days of riding without it failing, and now I'm in the position of trying to rush A* for a fix or replacement before next track day this Saturday. Seems they still haven't gotten it all together.
Has anyone else lost their display unit? I've now lost mine twice. Getting all my gear laid out for tomorrow, go to charge my suit, and there's no display unit. So I guess I at least have a sweet back protector now
