I have a 3/4 ton Ram and a 18' trailer. My guage cluster is set to monitor Water temp, trans temp, and Oil pressure. I pay zero atention to the fuel guage, just the MTE. Right lane, 69-71mph and I only brake for Buccees.
Anyone buy from Trailer Country in Willacoochee, Georgia? A new d/a 7x14 for $4800 almost makes me want to take the long ass trip... Any junkier than the other cheap brands? Similar "great timber" brand trailer 4 hours away in MI is $5700. Used ones on Marketplace are either very used looking or more than new...

So... I ended up with a 7x12 6'3" inside height tandem axle trailer (the one listed here recently). Pulls just fine with my GX460, but sucks some gas... the GX gets 22-23 mpg at 78 on the freeway, with the trailer (empty) it got 9.5 averaging 70 and on the slower backroads got 13 averaging 50-55. Got a trailer dolly that's rated for 600 lbs I was hoping to use to maneuver it around my driveway, that was a total bust. No way, no how. Gonna take some practice parking/backing the thing. I am greatly looking forward to NOT busting my head open like I did on the 5x8 low height trailer I bought a couple months ago (and sold after a few weeks). I hope someday someone makes a modern van that isn't a total shitpile... that's really the ideal racing setup.
Vans are great, but then you're stuck with a van either sitting in the driveway or that you have to actually drive everyday. And I don't think vans have the floorspace of a trailer. I guess if you're just toting a bike or two and a couple items you're good. We used to use one at the shop for hauling up to 3 bikes, but there's far less room for generators, tires, toolboxes and all the crap you inevitably end up with when you get into this godforsaken hobby.
I'm not guessing, have owned an E350 extended and a long/tall Sprinter. The new Sprinters and Transits have plenty of room for me, they're just overpriced and unreliable. For as much as I need a "daily driver", a van is fine- I work from home. The van would take up far less driveway space than my current SUV and trailer, and is a shitload easier to move around than the trailer. If Toyota or Honda sold a Sprinter sized van in the US I'd be all over it (after a few years when used ones were available at reasonable prices)
That's probably why they don't, because of cheap Axx's like you and me. We are the potential buyers and don't want to buy new and pay retail. I'm guessing the Ford Transit would be okay, I have had plenty of older Ford E250/350 and they are okay, cheap parts, same with the Chevy cargo van, but neither of those are high roof? I've heard enough bad about the older sprinters, I'm gun shy. Maybe the ugly high roof Nissan NV2500/3500 Nissan cargo van would work for you?
My buddy is in an awd trail transit for north of 130k that cant back into my 2:12 sloped driveway without tearing up the pavers. It has just enough room to haul 1 bike inside and 1 on the hitch rack. It has a drop down bed, solar panel array on the roof & 60 gallons of fresh water. I must be blind because I couldnt see where the $40k, it cost to build it, went. Im 6'2" & cant standup straight in it. He will be towing a 4500lb toyhauler type trailer with it. We will see how it shakes out in SC the end of this month. Ill be slumming it in the bed of my truck with an air mattress
Been doing some work on my new trailer: applied bedliner to ramp gate installed a/c (portable unit, exhaust and condensate exits thru floor) added shelving in front (folds down once a/c is moved out of the way) moved around and added Etrack moved tire rack spray foam on ceiling (fucking messy, expensive disaster) covered up ugly foam with 5mm plywood, went as far as to coat with polyurethane with white flake in it (pretty much invisible) added 24' of LED strips to ceiling will also have several motion activated small light strips for when I don't need to perform surgery added grab handles in and out on side door, and a hold open latch for door added etrack bins (courtesy of the 5x8 I bought and sold before this) magnetic backup camera on back of ramp (yet untested on the road) trailer came with a huge amount of good shit- nice racks, tire rack, miles of etrack, v cabinets, wiring inlet, 3 TRS plates and 2 TRS (everything but pins) and more pics https://photos.app.goo.gl/Bvg5iDybLwFfntTq7 feel free to check it out/critique in person at Nelson on 9/20 or at the GNF
I'd consider painting your walls/ceiling white. Much brighter when needing to work inside the trailer at night, and better when running inside the trailer during the day. And maybe some linoleum or floor tiles for the floor. Yeah, I get that you'd have to remove everything to do a nice job of it.
That was the original plan, but just too much stuff already mounted. Trust me- it's plenty bright in there now!
