Whitey can’t leave good enough alone October being breast cancer month alone so he has to turn it into something about quitting boozing. Okay, cool, whatever. So, who is in? Who is drying out for October? Next month is no nut November and that’s a bridge too far for you all, we’ll skip discussion of that entirely.
I was actually talking about this with my son the other night while we were driving home. I think in general alcohol consumption is way down. I don’t know many people that drink, or drink consistently. Booze costs too damned much, and I think the penalties that come with a DUI now have also contributed to the decline of “the Bender” on a Friday or Saturday night. I grew up in a family full of drinkers. My uncles NEVER missed “going to town” on Saturday night to get pissed up, drive home, stumble into the house and go to church with my grandparents rockin’ world class hangovers sitting in the old school Baptist church wooden pews. Legend has it that my uncle Roger fell asleep once in church and let the fart heard around the world in the middle of a sermon. On my Dad’s side…..he and his brother….did some very impressive evenings of trying to achieve liver failure, too. I dabbled in it in like high school and in my early 20’s. After a handful of times waking up with a pounding head, and maybe throwing up…..I got over that shit fast.
I'm on about my fifty-eleventh " I quit!" currently I find alcohol to be absolutely gooder-n-hell!!! Then the bottom of another bottle, and waking up, to be hell. Being Irish I have to perform up to a certain family level of debauchery, and family tradition.. Honestly though, it kills those of us that don't know where that "Line" is. I try to buy a tin of gummies, and let that be my drinky drank, and not walk down those aisles in those grocery stores. Here's to Sobertober!
I’ve found that getting toxins out of your life negates the need to introduce more toxins to tolerate the prior toxins, 7 years, baby!
my biggest regret in this life is "under age" drinking. By the time I was "of age" drinking was boring & a worthless time waster. Also when I stopped spending money to settle bar tabs or buy cases... I had a whole lot more disposable income for motorcycles.
That stating there is less drinking doesn't line up with the proliferation of wineries and "wine trails".
Yep, even at the height of my drinking and partying, I always got bad hangovers and still do. Basically woke up one morning and thought "this kinda sucks." So for, I don't know, 10-15 years now I haven't drank much. I enjoy a good beverage as much as the next guy but just have no desire indulge enough to induce a hangover the next day. I got shit to do lol. I might have a drink or 2 once a month on average. Sometimes may go 6 months without a drop, then maybe a couple times in one month. But never inclined to overindulge anymore.
I already screwed the pooch last night by having a beer and burger. But in fairness to me I was eating at Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint. Oh well, maybe next year.
