Not sure there is any normal or standard. My current back 40 clay oval is 12’ wide straights ~20’ wide in the corners. Straights are 65’ long, corners to the center of the track width should be around a 20’ radius, so tight. Designed as a 2nd gear track on the 100-150cc bikes(crf, klx, ttr). Old track was slightly longer and more open which required shifting between 2 & 3 4x per lap. 12’ is a bit narrow, would go at least 20’ wide if there will be more than 2 or 3 people. I would also open up the corner radius another 5’ to help the high line.
Ask to see and photograph valid health insurance cards and ID's when they are signing your release. Ask them on camera if they understand they could very possibly be injured riding or otherwise becoming injured on your property and you will in no way be responsible for any costs associated with their treatment or health care whatsoever. I dont get what the "valid health insurance" proof is supposed to mitigate? All the folks with private land, around here, will only allow folks to ride if you are a licensed racer or have an endorsement from one of the group regulars.
I hadn’t thought about insurance-injuries etc for people running at my place. The moment anyone breaks something, I’m dragging them out to the gravel road and that’s where you hurt yourself
Unfortunately even with all that insurance checking, waivers, etc if someone gets hurt above a little bruising, you’re probably getting sued. Either by them, the family or their insurance. Now if you line the track with pitchforks then maybe you should be sued. But if some breaks their leg riding on your land then it should be on them. Suing erryone for our own mistakes is why we can’t have nice things.
When I had my house in Cleveland Ga. I had 4 acres, and my neighbor had 8.We combined the property, as well as the power lines property, and built a nice track. The kids across from us had 100 plus acres, but rode at our place. We had some pretty big crowds, but one Saturday, the neighbor and I had a thought/conversation of "What if" One of these shits eats it ?? And no sooner than the conversation started, the neighbors kid ate it, and came up short on a jump. Looked like he broke his neck! Kids mom shows up, and played it off, as that was kids, being kids! We shut it down after that!! Kid was ok,after ER visit
We've discovered people who have no health insurance are far more likely to want 'those who can afford to own some land' to help them out when injured. Hey, if they can afford the land, they likely have good insurance, right? I've heard this statement from a former WERA racer who broke his leg riding a KX 500 on my friend's land several years ago. One cannot make assumptions or take someone else's word in today's litigious society. Ask every question and document everything you possibly can. Remember, our insurance payments are funding all of those lawyer advertisement signs we see everywhere.
This is the only thing that comes to mind when I drive through Baton Rouge on I10. Gorgen and Gorgen need a lot of money to pay for the 40 billboards and their giant new office near the I10 I12 split. My insurance doubled when I moved down from Alaska and I hold them personally responsible.
Of course not but those types can ride any number of other places. Im not in disagreement of the lawsuit industry.
