Time to replace my heat pump. It's a builder grade 12yr old guessing 10 seer +/- that runs 12 plus hours a day in Florida. It's 2750 sq ft and the existing 3.5 ton was marginal at best so will replace with a 4 ton Any way to even venture a guess as to what the cost savings would be? Where do I begin to figure out how many kwh per hour both systems use and I'm guessing the new unit will run a tad less not struggling to hold temperature? My electric bill is about $700 a month
I'm with you here as well. My upstairs unit went out two weeks ago and just got a call from my tenant that one of my rentals went out....Like 20 grand worth of HVAC work. No real value to add to your question, just the whole misery loves company thing.
I have nothing to add as far as your question, but is this normal in Florida? Damn, my electric bill is about $100/month year round. Plus another $100/month (average) for natural gas to heat in the winter. Sorry to get off topic, just really surprised by the amount.
Damn, $700/mth? I know we dont get quite as hot here, but my biggest bill was just my last, when we had a record warm month. And between my house (2400sq ft) central air, and the biggest window shaker you can buy running in my 3000sq ft shop non stop, it was $360 Cdn. So like $250usd.
Damn. I was shocked when mine hit a $400 one time here in Alabama last year. The new unit (installed February) is bigger so it doesn't work as hard as the previous (it was installed on 2004), highest I've seen so far is $245.
15+ SEER a couple years replaced our original 1990s unit. In Jax, house is a little smaller. $300 during summer. Including water and sewer. Savings are about $100 a month.
yeah - My budget billing (11 months of service averaged out) is $294. I see 350-400 in July / August due to the extreme heat here in SC.
We have a 2 story 1850 sq ft home with a Trane SEER 14 installed from 2012. Compressor went boom. Friend came over and convinced me that heat pump pushing cold air through a 140 degree attic in Texas is stupid. I agreed. Samsung Mini Split https://share.google/828HZuXvv9XExuljk We are having these installed and will be the 1st house in the neighborhood to stop the insanity. Monthly cost is approximately $100-125 as each unit is 24 SEER. Each room will have its own wifi controlled thermostat
We've had not great long term luck outta Samsung appliances That being said....they're all China shit now so pick the one with longest warranty Grandma's freezer from 1960 was more reliable
These (Samsung mini splits) aren't made in the same place as the other appliances. They have a 12 year mfg warranty and aren't filled with 454B refrigerant which is essentially non-existent We had no less than 6 different companies to our home to give us their spiel on why we should choose their system. Only 1 said there is no 454 to be had. Here is another reason the mini-splits make sense...if 1 unit goes on the fritz or needs repairs the whole house isn't suffering like with a 4 or 5 ton central heat pump that breaks.
My obligatory post in ant AC thread: spend some $$$ towards insulation and good windows if you haven't already before getting more AC than you need.
The savings won't be what you hope for. Based on my limited information, $500 per year, give or take, if it's a heat pump. 454B is on my warehouse shelves and every truck in my fleet. Yes, there was a shortage, but the reason contractors don't have it now is that they weren't proactive.
How do you know how much it will save if the units arent installed? Are you creating a mechanical deck for all those individual units? Assuming they are all 120v capable?
Thoughtful building practices put the A/C equipment and duct work within the conditioned envelope. Everything else is just throw it in to get it built and cheap non-sense.
I dont disagree here BUT with windows its like who can lie the most in a sales pitch. If there is a stucco finish... prepare for the contractors to penetrate hard. Also retrofitting windows is pretty invasive if done correctly. Many companies just dont have the available skill set to handle such a task. The insulation stuff is super easy as long as the roof has adequate ventilation.
Single / Multi Zone High-Wall Systems One outdoor unit can run several indoor units. They don't have to be a one to one relationship.
The person installing ours has 5 daiken units and with about the same sq footage. His daiken are 10+ years old and he said he is hoping the daikens die because the Samsung units are more efficient and quieter/wifi connection. There are different Samsung options that don't offer the whisper quiet feature as well. I will post pics once the installation is done.
My buddy had a 4br place built in San Carlos MX... each room had its own mini split plus the common rooms. There were 7 units on the 3rd story roof behind a 3' parapet... I can only imagine how many miles of copper got ran.
