Only been once but Indy turn 4 high in the stands seemed pretty decent. You see them coming off the back straight which is a passing opportunity then through the last set of turn onto the straight. Maybe turn 1 is the similar. Not sure they may have altered the track or flipped directions recently
+ 1 I also went one year and sat in Stand H. This gives you a good view of turns 10 thru 16. This year they repaved the road course and made the two ninety degree turns (15 and 16) getting onto the front straight more like a chicane which should make these turns more interesting. Plus this should increase the speed down the front straight making the passing zone (turns 1 thru 4) even more exciting. http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/var/assets/2014_MotoGP_TrackMap.pdf
B Penthouse or E Penthouse. See all of the front straight and pits, and the whole set of first turns, onto the beginning of turn 5. Plus you're sitting in the shade. About $150 for a weekend pass.
I sat in the H stands the first year and general admission after that. Easy enough to walk around to all the viewing mounds and you still have access to the T1-T4 section.
If I go... thats a IF... I will go up Fri and leave Sun... probally fly...I already burned up all my vaca time on track weekends/weeks...
Usually you're standing tho, the suites upstairs are better sitting For those with some cash - the Turn 9 thing kicks ass. If you haven't been before I'd do a year watching the race from stands somewhere but for the more jaded of us, inside on at the track monitors rocks (especially if you can get inside a garage with the live timing feed too).
Yea, I was thinking the mounds might be good. It doesn't sound like there is a 'bad' place to be. Thanks for the info.
I didn't think the mounds were bad, but there was a point before the main race where people started just laying blankets down and throwing chairs up with umbrellas and stuff on the mounds. My advice would be to make sure you check out a few different places earlier in the day and see how the view is for you. We liked a spot where we could see a couple turns from the hill, but of course all of the spots on the mounds fill up quickly at some unknown point before the main event. If I were to go again (since moved several states away), I would consider bringing a couple chairs or a blanket and making sure I had the spot I wanted with plenty of time to spare. There was still plenty of time before that to get to the booths we wanted to see.
For the $ GA isn't bad but I really enjoyed the perspective from the E penthouse. Great view from the starting line all through t4. Plus there is a huge monitor just in front of you.
I sat on the outside of turn one, and really enjoyed it. You can see the action into turn one, plus turns 2-5.
This is the way to go. Enter the track between turns 3-4 and park for free. You can find many excellent views. Wander around Friday and Saturday to find your favorite viewing spot for Sunday. Other than race day you can pretty much get in to any section at the track if you just be nice to an usher.
