This once again reinforces my puzzlement on why Marini still gets good rides? I’ve heard he gives good feedback, is that the reason? But isn’t that really what the development riders are for, not your guy racing for wins/championships. He is related to Rossi, is that the reason? Wasn’t he the only Ducati rider a few years ago on a competitive bike that didn’t score a win? I can’t figure it out?
I doubt Marini will win a championship on any bike, but he is the leader in Honda points comfortably. He almost never crashes too, so if you’re looking to get feedback at a low cost, not only will he save you money in crash and maintenance costs, but that also means more laps and more data you need to make changes.
Bastianini (Matt Birt - please learn how to pronounce his name) reminds me of Cadalora. Up and down until contract time, then on the gas. There is some motivation missing at times.
I suppose, but someone like Honda wants to win. I think that's why they are releasing him. If you have deep pockets, I would rather try and tame Mir a bit, or fix my lack of front feel, versus staying with a guy that isn't exciting and has never won in motogp, even when riding the best bike on the grid at the time when he was riding a Ducati. I had to google this because I wasn't sure if Marini was on current Ducati's when riding them. According to this he was. I'm def not arguing in favor of him, just the context why he's been considered and is still around. He did finish his last season in Moto2 2nd in the championship. The riders that are currently placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th in the Moto2 championship appear to have contracts for MotoGP next year, so that's not off at all. He certainly underperformed on the VR46 MotoGP team although he did get two podiums and two pole positions in his last year with them. That + his consistency and ability to provide feedback is likely why Honda picked him up. Their bike was unride-able, their lack of development cost them their greatest chance for more championships in recent years with Marc. Again, not arguing for him, but just the likely context. 2027 makes sense to part ways, if ever, because everyone is starting with a new machine, so development is at least more balanced across manufacturers. I'm sure Honda want to win and they have the budget to get there if they can figure out how to develop a competitive bike. That said, it also seems very possible that Zarco retires and Marini takes the remaining LCR seat. He's a safe bet. Consider Chantra's brief MotoGP excursion. The only other option that would be a win for Honda/LCR is if they could convince Manu Gonzalez to take Zarco's seat. Between riders like Binder, Marini, Miller, etc. I can see why a brand would choose Marini.

Pretty cool that Pecco was able to stand up to his mentor and just think logically. I would think that had to be very tough. Brought up in the Rossi academy and I’m sure he idolized him like many of us do, but he had the strength to say no thanks, not my fight.
Was it Pecco's dad who gave Marquez a ride back to the paddock after he'd crashed earlier this season? When they got there Marquez hugged him and Pecco's mother.
I forgot all about that. It was then that I realized the Pecco and Marc truly do have a great working relationship. I think that’s awesome.
When you’re the beta to the goat, of course you’re going to get along great. Plus the ability to look at Marc’s data and talk to him is huge.
I dunno, it wouldn't completely shock me if Marc's data was of questionable value to Pecco, given different riding styles, Marc's alien ability to override the bike, etc....
Only thing I've seen is them confirming that they're staying with Ducati for another 3 years, but no official rider announcements yet.
