I've seen it mentioned that his radical braking style is toxic with the Michelin front tire. I guess I'll wait until he's on Pirellis to pass judgement, but I tend to agree with you. Last year everyone was trying to anoint him the next alien, and so far that's fallen flat. He "should" be at least nipping at Quattro's heels if he was that good. I think people underestimate just how good these guys in MotoGP are. Even the mid pack dudes are elite racers. What are the collective thoughts on Toprak? By now, if he is as talented as we are led to believe, he should not be the worst Yamaha and should he challenging Quarteraro as the best Yamaha?
I don't think it's a fair expectation that he be challenging Fabio, as he's been on those tires and that type bike for a loooong time. I was definitely expecting Toprak to do better than this though. At the very least to be consistently in the points, if not top 10. You can't downplay what he can do on a Superbike though, but I don't think he's as adaptable as some of the really top guys. Even in WSBK, there were times he struggled with bike changes, and I do think he's one of those guys that gets in his own head and makes it worse. What are the collective thoughts on Toprak? By now, if he is as talented as we are led to believe, he should not be the worst Yamaha and should he challenging Quartararo as the best Yamaha?
Had a bike go up in smoke but no flames. Seemed off the pace slightly but might be attributed to only having one bike. What happened to Ai? I wasn’t up at 2 am and just saw results…
Thanks, taking the hard road at home… hope he gets up front…Had a bike go up in smoke but no flames. Seemed off the pace slightly but might be attributed to only having one bike.
When y'all see Bulega on the GP26 next year, remember that Toprak beat him twice on the BMW.
Also look at the way the R1 ended Jonathan Rea's career after he foolishly thought If Toprak could win on it...
The M1 is a pile of dog shit. Alex Rins won a race on the murderous Honda. He can't find pit out on that junk. Quartararo is alien material. There is no reason Toprak should match him on year one.
Oh, And Toprak gave up on this year. Any sane person would have too.
Agree totally...be smart. Don't injure yourself before next year and Pirelli tires show up.Agreed on all. Toprak, at this point, is merely waiting for the next gen bike and tires. There is no reason for him to push at all.
I think you could look at it two ways. One way, he's underperforming compared to Fabio. The other way, in his first season he's on par with Moto GP veterans on the same bike. More to the point, Fabio is the reference, and is in 15th. So what's the upside for Toprak to potentially hurt himself to... maybe get to 15th. That makes no sense and if he started crashing to chase that we'd all be ragging on him for crashing the bike to get nowhere on the grid. What are the collective thoughts on Toprak? By now, if he is as talented as we are led to believe, he should not be the worst Yamaha and should he challenging Quartararo as the best Yamaha?
