Lydia Loveless. I met her in 2009 trying out for her band, she got signed to Bloodshot Records in 2011, and we got married later that year. Shit, man. I thought I would bring the mood down if I posted in this thread. You may have me beat.

 

Kid: F-16 pilot. No other plane was in the running. (I wanted to turn at 9g in the plane from Iron Eagle.)

Adult: Spanish teacher / Lacrosse Coach. Wouldn't trade it for anything other than running a race team (for which I am totally unqualified).

And therein lies the key.

Took a few years off to try my hand at futures trading (pops is a trader). Stopped losing money after a while, but didn't start making any before the kids came along.

 

I cannot even begin to describe to you how difficult it is for me to admit I am/was wrong. That is one trait that'll make you go broke quick in any form of investing. I forget which whiz-bang famous guy said it, but "The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent." Truth. Cut your losses quickly, don't get pissed if the next day/week/month the tide turns and your original premise was right. Stick with what you know and let the trend be your friend. Reinvest if it makes sense vis-a-vis wash-sale rule.

 

As a 10 year-old I wanted to be a telephone installer/tech, and ride motorcycles

As a 15 year old I wanted to be an electrician and an audio engineer and ride motorcycles

Reality:
I bought my first motorcycle at 18 in 1974. Been riding ever since.
earned a degree in Business Administration (organizational structure and labor relations). Paid for it working in Theater, Radio, and TV; and washing a crap-load of dishes.
I installed business phone systems & computer networks part-time/2nd job for a number of years (1979-99)
I became a radio engineer while still in school. Then figured out that TV paid 3x the rate that radio did.
I worked as an audio and recording engineer.
I sold, installed & serviced two-way radio systems. I'm a ham radio operator.
I became a licensed master electrician
I've been making my primary living as a TV engineer for more than 35 years, worked at several stations and national networks designing/building the electronic systems that make them work. Currently work as a sales engineer for an equipment manufacturer, working with stations and networks you all recognize. More and more it's all IT work.

I still ride motorcycles

Still not sure what I want to be when I grow up.

 

A swing and a miss here. I wanted to be a pro MX rider. Fate had different plans and I ended up in the oilfield freezing my ass off, babysitting people and looking after radioactive material.

 

So i gotta ask outta curiosity.......Did you research what a Sporran is? I started out with a plain type,but Animal heads are what i concentrate on whenever i make them anymore. Yeah,quite a jump from working for the Mafia to making Sporrans

Ya, you could say that. On the plus side, my knees are not as jacked up as most 50 yr old former pro motocrossers and I still get to ride both pavement and dirt. When riding the dirty bike I now prefer hare scrambles over motocross. I am way too familiar with how gravity works.

Not a bad gig, but often wished I didn't sell my soul and the past 22 years of my life to do it. 9 Gs hurts and my spine is trashed.
Sick of people telling me "I would have done that but...."

2500 hours of flying supersonic jets including combat etc... But coolest thing I've ever done was make an AMA grid (Supersport), TWICE.

 

I appreciate your service. I won't tell you "I would have done that".I like reading my paper standing up to take a leak and having a flight attendant bring me a cup of coffee.
