Keep fixing a truck or sell it

Personally I keep repairing until the engine is toast or there is a glaring safety problem. I just spent a few hundred replacing shocks, struts, and stabilizing links on my 2010 Rav4, but it only has 260,000 miles so it's nowhere near worn out yet.

youshould have a 4l60E (4speed) they have some occasion clutch or band failures.
I should clarified the 6l80e (6speed)is 2012 and newer till they swapped to the 10 speed

turning off the 4 cylinder mode with a tuner or a module seems to prevent the failure. i have simply turned off around a dozen

might be blower motor too. It clicks when the truck is off

Bled door actuator likely the recirculation door (behind the glove box in most vehicles)

I used to turn my truck over every two years, so my 2019 is my fifth tundra.

My dealer called in 2021 to tell me my new TRD Pro was in. I rushed to the dealer, drove it, and left in my old truck. I’ll most likely drive it until it’s dead.

Ironically it’s the last old-school American half ton pickup. Big V8, crazy torque for a gasser and built like a tank. It’s heavy and the fuel mileage reflects that, but it’s a solid truck that’s been in production since 2007.

I had my Land Cruiser at the dealership for service a few months ago and was chatting with the service manager. I told him their sales department had been stalking me about buying or taking my Tundra on trade. He leaned in and said under his breath, "Don't do it. We have five of them out back waiting on engines."

It's unfortunate because it's a beautiful truck, but they're adding too many moving parts and trading displacement for boost.

Idk what airline you work for. But the one I work for (WN) has their own credit union with some pretty good rates. Might want to check on that.

also all this turbo non sense I why I picked up a new frontier. Yeah it’s small and can’t tow a million pounds but it’s built old school and I’m hoping I can drive it for a long time, I plan to give it to my son when he turns 16 in 6 years…. Fuck that’s painful to say. Lol

Let's allow some facts to get in the way of a good story. The engine in question has been around since 2018. It debuted in the LS500. And has been in operation in that application without fault since launch. The 2018+ LS500 has had recalls, but none related to the engine. The issue at the center of the Tundra/LX600 recall is related to a machining defect; not an engineering defect or design defect. Moreover, while there were ~800 documented failures. The brand decided to replace all 100K engines as a preventative / good will move. Lastly, going back to this not being an engineering or design defect, the hybrid models using the same base engines are unaffected by the recall.

I'm a Toyota fanboy, but the idea that "good will" plays into the financial decision matrix of any major auto manufacturer is pretty optimistic.

I think installing car engines in trucks is the problem. It seems like a truck should have a truck engine.

I'm not saying that was the motivation; nor the underlying justification. The logic was likely what was more effective as a long-term resolution.

Nothing about the engine's design, capacity rating or function was the root cause of the failure.

I'm good with calling a failure a failure, but in this instance, nothing about the engine was at fault. It was a machining issue that caused the engine to fail. Calling the entire engine series garbage is a distorted statement (I'm not saying that was your statement, just referencing what my response is aimed at).

He's calling the 3.5 V6 that's currently in the Land Cruiser, Tundra, Sequoia, GX, & LX a car engine. Because it debuted in a car (the LS500).

Decided I was ready for something new so I just bought a 2021 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 and 35k miles for $28.2k. Tire blew out, damaged the fender and such...totaled. now it's mine at what i feel is a great price.
