Deep/Low Dry creek in my backyard. The other side of the creek, directly from my basement door, is the entry/exit point for all the local wildlife. Right above the entrance/exit is a common ground, man made tunnels, tall tall grass, etc. My creek is the 'greenbelt', and the 'field' across the creek is the hotel. My disabled dog sees a coyote enter creek at 9:30am, drags me down the landing spot. Coyote is meandering away from us (30' ish) down the creek. I see another coyote 20-30 feet in front of that one, off to the side, on the edge of the creek shadowing the foliage. It is Dark, Almost black. I stare at it as it walks away, I see the black tail, WTF? Then I see the 'cat body and back of the head/ears... WTF??!!!!!!?!!!!!!!! I am staring at a Black panther??????? What?!?!?!?!? *(It has some slight 'grayish' mottling(sp)/patterns on its flanks, barley visible. I bolt outta the creek into my yard, run through the grass a couple yards down, look into the the common ground field. 60 pound black cat walking over the crest into the tall grass. There is No such thing, never scientifically recorded, etc, a 'black' melanistic mountain lions do Not exist in nature/etc. I saw a 'black' mountain lion. This is Missouri, not Kentucky, ain't no illegal pet big/exotic cats around here, to escape. I live in a frickin subdivision, off to the side of the Missouri River. *fwiw, I seen a 70-80lb normal mountain lion by my house in 2009, and had a cinnamon black bear come down my creek twice this year. Had/seen a legit badger in my backyard once, in late 1990. Poeple on the www are always saying "When I was young yada yada yada, I seen a black panther, yada yada yada...." . If any of them are telling the truth, then They seen an escaped (or dumped) pet melanistic leopard. Aint no exotics where I live. This was an extremely (almost black) young mountain lion. Half you guys on here are from the country/rural..... anyone ever seen or heard of something like this? Thank you for attention to this matter. God Bless, Erik
You have the award winning Calves I could never come close to getting, no matter how hard I trained.... But I saw a Dark Dark brown mountain lion this morning
I wonder if it was a melanistic black Jaguar. The mottling on the flanks that you saw could be an indicator. If it was really about 60 lbs then maybe it is a juvenile that wandered north out of its usual range. I don't know how far jaguars travel, but the Google shows their range extending into north Texas.
Would be cool, but even more impossible. Would be cool though. I seen it 6-9months ago for a blink and thought it was a dark brown coydog , seen it today dark brown (probably looked even darker cause it was in the deep/canopied creek bed) Thick monkey tail was coal black (to my eyes). My mom said it was black w/ grayish on the sides. I noticed that too. I am guessing it was just a DARK brown cougar, not a black cougar. Incredible to see it (twice now) and be within maybe 50-60 feet of it. Just like the coyote, wasn't scared of me or my barking dog, both just leisurely walked/trotted away. The coyotes have zero fear of my 90-pound dog, they know she can't stand/walk anymore, i seen them w/in 20 feet of her, not even looking at her. Ken, a Huge 120+ cat was spotted 10 miles away in Chesterfield Missouri (I am in Weldon Springs) on trail cam years (10-15) ago on the news. Cats are here, just rarely seen. I had a 70-pounder run across my car's bow at night, couple blocks from my house, back in 2009. That one was light brown like a deer. Great day!!! <3
Several people including my Grandma have told me they have seen black panthers here in the Ouchita Mtns. I’m sure they are mountain lions that are just black but yeah, we got em. I don’t care what some wack ass woke wildlife department says that they don’t exist.
@SpeedyE I know nature is attracted to some more than others and think it’s cool that you’ve got a black panther now… quite the change from the river floats with the Asian Coons… glad you’re still kicking man
Everyone on the cougar forum has convinced me there is no such thing as a dark colored cougar. I searched the interwebs, this is the closest thing in body and color I could find. Showed this pic to my mom, she said this is what she saw. I saw it from the rear/side and direct rear. It is a Huge 30+ pound (escaped) male coatimundi. I got the weight wrong, my mom got it right. Imma game cam it, then catch it, and find the owners. Sorry about all this <3
Wtf is that mutant thing?!?? Wait I saw one of those in a horror movie where the evil mastermind combined a bunch of animals together and brought it to life with lightning...
It aint a coati... i find out a coati size of a raccoon. This thing size of a coyote. I seen it again tonight. Its a big cat, 50 pound cat.
If you've ever seen a coati run no one would mistake it for a coy-ote or a cougar. Undulates sort of like a racoon.
Thank you. Them jerks on the 'sightings page' had me all upside down, I was looking for w/ similar color, anything it might be. This thing undulates (on rock creek bed) like a cat, and it's tail flows inline with the spine/body movements. Tail is long and thick. Thank you
