    Our dnr did same thing

Said wolves don't exist in the lower peninsula

So this guy shoots what he thinks is a big ass state record coyote...posts it on Facebook, and then the dnr gets wind of it and go to his place to inspect the animal.

    Yup, full blooded wolf.

I don't think some people understand how tough animals are and how far they will roam over ice or even swim.

I had a deer swim up in my backyard that swam over from Michigan probably a solid 1/2 mile

I've 2 different buddies now in middle of the state that have had wild boar pigs on their deer cameras

I've seen, I guess, a bobcat on my ring camera. Looked like he was maybe 30lbs, so I'm guessing that's what it was. Plenty of coyote around. A few have stalked my dogs. It's why I always have a pew pew on me when I walk outside! I can't imagine seeing anything that big though. I'd probably crap myself.

Everyone on the cougar forum has convinced me there is no such thing as a dark colored cougar.

I searched the interwebs, this is the closest thing in body and color I could find.
Showed this pic to my mom, she said this is what she saw. I saw it from the rear/side and direct rear.

It is a Huge 30+ pound (escaped) male coatimundi. I got the weight wrong, my mom got it right.
Imma game cam it, then catch it, and find the owners.
    Sorry about all this <3

I dont know what i saw. Colored like the pic of the coati, but I know it was bigger, much bigger. was the size of an adult coyote. I'm starting to get confused w/ research/info/pic overload. Imma put a trail cam out this week. I'll post up if I get a pic/vid of it, whatever it is.

    EDIT:
I dont know what I saw.
It was too big to be a Coati. This thing was as big as the coyote standing near it.
Too dark colored to be a Cougar.
I'm grasping at straws to make sense of what I saw.
Imma have to catch it on game camera to know what it is.

The anti black cougar people on FB, got me all turned upside on this whole thing. Got me 2nd guessing everything I saw.
I know (approximately) what I saw, size, stature, shape, color, fur-length/coarseness ... I might be wrong on the actual weight, but nothing is adding up. Cant find any exotic cat on google that looks like it. The only local wildlife that has a thick/long cat tail is a mountain lion, and everyone on FB is on attack mode about it. Coatimundi coloring in that pic looks the same, but more I read, the coati is size of a raccoon...not even close in size. This thing was the size of a coyote.
I gotta get a trail cam out there this week, and hope I catch it on vid/pix, and then I know for sure. Whatever it was/is, it's odd

I've only ever seen coatimundis in videos, but I can't imagine you'd mistake one for a big cat.

I do believe for a variety of reasons that there are some non-standard color combination animals running around out there.

This jogs my memory, a couple, friends of my parents, swear up and down that an all black big cat crossed the highway in front of them. That was probably twenty years ago in eastern Iowa. They're farmers/hunters and own a bunch of rough river bottom pasture ground. Point being, they see all the normal wild animals regularly.
