Saturday I stuck in the base to charge after letting it cool down. It went from 19% to 100% in a few min (less than 10) which I thought was quite odd. I hit record then stuck it in my helmet and spun over to cycle gear 7 min away. It was hot outside but I kept my shield up to allow air on it. I walked in to the store and it felt like it might start melting plastic
I'm guessing this is just a magnetic mount. Would it make sense to just use a bent piece of steel instead of aluminum and get rid of the actual 'insta' mount altogether to move the camera even further rearward out of your peripheral vision?
I suppose the secrets out now lol.. I've been running this setup with the Go3 for a while now. Works great, never overheats even in the FL heat. I actually just got a pretty gnarly crash video racing at Barber with it if anyone's interested.
That was my first thought as well. It didn't work. There's magnets in the camera AND magnets in the mount. I tried a handful of magnets I had on hand as well, but those all had at least 2 of a few things going against them: 1. The polarity and orientation of the magnets in the camera didn't match the orientation of the mounting holes of my magnets 2. The size of the magnets I had didn't match well with the size of the magnet in the camera, so they would stay stuck together, but wouldn't consistently locate the camera in the same place and orientation each time. 3. The insta360 has a super thin rubbery sticker on top of its magnets that keeps the cameral from shifting relative to the mount. I was afraid that without this, the camera would slide over and interfere with my face. If you wanted to simply place your camera on a steel beam of a building, sure, it would stick and work well. If you want to put it on something moving, I wouldn't recomend it without using the OEM mount in some way.
My GO 3S is on its way (via Fedex) back to Cali and I am supposedly going to get an exchange unit. We shall see... Post up the footage
I've been looking at the 360 camera (X5 is the latest version). My GoPro finally died and want something for recording stuff (dirt, street, maybe track at some point, driving, hiking, etc). Need to look up the specs on the latest but the low light filming has caught my eye.. anyone use one of the X5 360 cameras?
Contacted Insta360 support. They sent me an email with Fedex shipping label to return the camera unit and motorcycle helmet bracket. Received email from Insta360 support on 7/24 that in 5 business days there would be an update. So it's nearly a month after spending $366...
My man was fucking SIDEWAYS. Glad you two were both all right, and that you both have the right perspective on things
Quick, nice footage. That camera did well, and glad you both seem to be ok. I liked the fact that you kept mentioning to the other guy to get checked out. We all know that an injury can be hidden when the brain releases those chemicals. You appeared to have run over his leg. If he wasn't injured, he was lucky. He was actually lucky it started out as a high side, then ended as a low side.
For anyone interested in more crash footage captured from the Go 3S. The new surface at Mid-Ohio is still sketchy as hell when damp. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/I99pcHMhdcA Before anyone asks, only a tweaked neck and a little rash on my right forearm. I'm getting kind of tired of being the michelin man, but the airbag definitely did its job.
It's not the suit's fault. It's been crashed so many times that it had developed some not so obvious thin spots. I think it's been officially retired now. Time to go break in the new one this weekend
Anyone try these Amazon small GO3 knock offs that are like under $100??? Seams like a cheap alternative to the GoPro unit. Amd might even work with the GoPro unit helmet mount?
I finally got my replacement camera and action pod base. Seems like they sent me a Germany mfg version instead of the Chinese one that overheats.
Update, my previous response was absolutely not true. Turns out you can change the orientation in the settings, I was just too dumb and frustrated to figure it out. Gave it to @Alixvandurand on the drive to Atlanta last year and he was able to figure it out. You can put it in what I think is called free-form mode, which will let you edit the orientation and aspect ratio later from the software. It takes more memory and a little bit more battery, but totally worth it. Really makes the whole thing useful for me.
