Yacht rock maybe? Interesting question, Don’t really know. could just say early 70s soft rock and just call it a day I guess. No Use for a name this week for me. Definitely not yacht rock.
So I left the only headphones that I can hear at a buddy’s place on my trip and have been stuck with the radio all week… I just got a new pair that plays 95 decibels(I can only hear above 85) so I’ve got choices again… Puscifer “the remedy” it’s been that kind of week and lots of people need that remedy badly… can’t wait to hand deliver it
Silversun Pickips Some SP SD because Jimmy Chamberlin All them witches Clutch And some trees… of which Elephant>Porcupine haven’t gotten to the screaming ones today… And of course Tool All of you guitarphiles… I stopped at a buddy’s who showed me his current collection that began when we started jamming over 30 years ago… his Carvin is still his favorite but he’s got so many and I learned a bunch about outputs and overwound pickup coils and and and… Les Paul’s to strats to so many I didn’t recognize the names or shapes… all cataloged with output data for whatever he wanted to get out of them… then his amps were nuts…. Tube amps everywhere… and his drum kits… I love music but he’s a real musician and can make what he wants at will
Who was going on about snaggletooth Jewel? @britx303 that you? I just stumbled upon a live performance of hers that has made me really appreciative her talent… raw real vocals… I haven’t listened to her since the hippy chicks played her in the 90s… I’ll add her to some of my favorite female vocals now
For some stupid reason I was going to spend the afternoon listening to Boston and some Journey. Both put out some incredible music and that first Boston album was almost perfect. Ended up going out to grab a pack of smokes and listened to Crimpshrine and loving turning a 5 minute run into the time that that cd takes 3 times.
I love Boston and Journey is great too… maybe you’re on a spaceship kick and didn’t know it… who remembers the Atari game Journey? Some space ship thing with good music… I dig Kansas too and always lump them in with Boston for some reason… now I’m off to Monster Magnet speaking of space lords… maybe even some Clutch for Spacegrass… Sunday space mode engaged
Me either… kinda cute… for a blonde… I listened to some of her music last night and it paled compared to live… I just didn’t know how reserved her studio work was… better late than never I guess.
Boston was my early youth. First band besides The Beach Boys that I can remember actually listening to. Crimpshrine is 100% the opposite music wise. Simple and crude while Boston is note perfect and complex.
Boston? How the fuck did you become a punk if your earliest music recollections are the fucking Bleach Bois and Bawstin?
Just checked out Crimpshire… too punkish for me… I never listened to Boston with a analytical ear… just liked it from my youth on.. Rocking some Son Volt now… their first few albums are really great and it’s mostly because of the Minnesota bros brought out a side of Jay Ferrar that he hasn’t accessed since imo… none of his replacement pieces have come close since from the violins to the rhythm sections to the steel… great music usually comes from the bonds of individuals into a greater force of music not achievable on their own.
It’s kinda like the shock some people had when Lombardo talked about his musical influences. He followed up with something to the effect of “ what trash metal bands did you expect, when it wasn’t even around yet?” Nostalgia gets me with The Beach Boys……..not everything, but I like some. Boston had good guitaring, I can’t deny as a guitarist. Journey. I threw up in my mouth.
Was listening to the usual cock rock from the era and heard the Ramones and everything changed instantly. Can still listen to dinosaur rock once in awhile but I get bored fast with it. Crimpshrine is a bit “off” and raw af but for whatever reason I dig it.
Since a youngin’, that band has always nauseated me. And that gd wheels in the sky song was playing at a gun show yesterday. FML
