Evan Williams Bottled in Bond? That shit is pretty good for cheap bourbon. Ezra Brooks 90 proof is back on the shelves after a few year hiatus. I guess Lux Row found out the competition is pretty deep in the $50-$100 dollar market and decided to bottle the watered down stuff again. Best under $20 bottle there is.
That’s kinda steep but it’s very good. Polished off one of those and something else I can’t remember a year or two ago at thanksgiving and was impressed by it.
Angel's Envy is the only brand my wife will use for her bourbon pecan pie. She has a bottle or two that I'm not allowed to drink. It's only for baking.
Do it! I actually don't think $175 is all that bad. I bought a bottle of Blanton's Gold for $200 this past Sept at a non-descript liquor store in Taylorsville KY. And yeah, it's worth it!
You are probably 100% right. I think the most I’ve ever spent on my scotches or whiskey’s over the years is $100, other than a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. Those can last forever, but I’ve spent $50-125 for a nice Cab, multiple times, and those are only good for a day or so after opening. I had angel’s envy the other day and thought it was good enough to drink neat.
If you can find Still Austin cask strength in your area BUY IT. Here in price controlled OH it was $60 and better than anything else I've had at that price point. My go to usual stuff is still Weller Green label- only $28 and pretty readily available here lately. Crazy that when I go to KY or TN I might find a bottle or 2 at $70-80.
Man, what a great day! I put three new tires on the Kendon and a new rear on the 1190. I go up to my liquor store to get beer for the evening and a bottle of Weller is sitting on a little table. The guy at the store laughed and said, "it's been sitting there all week, we were wondering when you were coming by!"
Weller green is so readily available now I'm surprised they still consider it allocated (limit 1). Been finding the red label the last few weeks pretty easily too, though I think there's better stuff for $60
107 has been showing up at the distillery every 2 weeks or so it seems. I think you have to get there early on a Saturday morning to get it though. I have a bottle of Weller 12, since you can just order it off Amazon in Japan, but I've never had 107 at home. I want a bottle so I can make Poor Man's Pappy.
I was in Lexington this week and went to Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve. Aside from 2 bottles of Blantons )just because I could), I also got 2 bottles of Colonel E.H. Taylor Four Grain. I don’t typically drink Bourbon. Some are saying this is pretty good stuff. Also got a bottle of Woodford Reserve Red Corn. They said it’s very limited. Is it worth cracking these open or selling for an unreasonable amount?
Dink em. Bourbon is like wine, each release/vintage is unique and you'll likely never have the EH Taylor again anyway.
i snagged a blanton's gold, elmer t lee, and weller full proof from my local Total Wine. wife says im on bourbon restriction now.
I just bought another 750 of Old Fo rye for $29.99. My plebian palate can't discern much difference between that and 4 figure stuff. At least, not enough difference to warrant 4 figures!
Stuff like Pappy is great and definitely better than the $30-50 stuff, but not 20 times better. I enjoy it all. People always ask me what a good bourbon is and I tell them I'm the wrong person to ask because whatever is in my glass is good, and that may be just Evan Williams. LOL
Lately we can find Blanton's here every week or 2, EH Taylor is almost a shelfer now. At $82 and $62 neither are remotely close to worth buying. Got some Elmer T Lee and Charter Oak recently (only time I'd ever seen either) and both were very good. At about $60 either Weller 107 or Still Austin cask strength are usually available and a bargain. There's usually stacks of Weller green, hard to beat at $28
Weller green is my favorite bourbon. Of course we can never find it in Louisville (or most of Kentucky) because it's gone as soon as it hits the shelf. There's one liquor store in Garrettsville that always has cases of it, but they only allow one bottle per person per day. When we race at Nelson we'll go into town afterwards and stock up. I've even stood outside and offered people $10 to buy me a bottle, because it's still a steal to me at $38.
