Good bourbon?

Ha, that’s probably why I don’t do the points thing at Total Wine even though I go every week. $3k a year maybe, definitely not ten.

I don’t know how reselling bottles online works but I have friends who work at restaurants that can get a bunch of these at cost. My buddy has a bottle of Buffalo Trace OFC that they bought for $2k and they’re selling for like 6-$8k online.

We found a local Bourbon club for the bottle of Pappys 10 year we found in mom's cabinet when she passed. Got $2K for it.

It is indeed insane. I've seen that bottle on the shelf for $3500 (even at that i would never buy it). To me it's like wine.... the difference between a $20 bottle and a $100 bottle is noticeable and maybe even worth it depending on who you are. The difference between a $100 bottle and $1000 bottle? Probably not so much and you might even taste a tinge of regret in there.

That's not how bourbon and the market works unfortunately. What can you get where you are shopping? Head up the the Ralph's in Del Mar, ask for the liquor manager Jeff, and ask if he has anything on the back shelf he can get you. Tell him you are related to Norman and Pat. He could find a rare bottle he hasn't put on the shelf, or he may be out. 50/50.


Now, if you just want a good, mass produced bourbon, I would look for any of the EH Taylor brand. Should be some at some bottle shop down in IB ( I think that's where you are) and it won't run you 300 but it's a quality bottle.
 
Also less than $100 is look at full Redwood Empire catalog. Just ordered two more and am waiting for the wheated version to be back up for sale.

I'll second anything EHT. EHT Single Barrel is my all-time favorite bourbon and I've had some good shit over the years. A close second is Midwinter Night's Dram when it was contracted out to the Indiana distillery.

This is just a conflict management strategy among friends. Long and short: A couple of weeks ago, I was supposed to be running a marathon with some friends. I had to bail so I could head to Florida and help my parents with flood damage. They paid me back for my share of our lodging, which was unnecessary.

Years ago we agreed that in situations like this, the unclaimed funds must be used toward a single bottle of whiskey. In this case it's $300, which is more than I would ever spend. Buffalo Trace is always on the shelf for $24 and that's good enough for me.
 
Your best bet is to go into Bevmo. Go to the website first, there are plenty in the price range of $250-$300. Then find which store has them in stock. There are quite a few in San Diego. Then buy one that is in stock. I know there is also a Bourbon distributor in Old Town that carries high end bourbon but cant recall the name at the moment.

I will never know what this caliber of whiskey will taste like as I would never spend that kind of cash on alcohol. Unless I am just rich, which at the moment is not in the plans.
