We get a ton of flies late summer. I think it’s the combination of fruit trees, dog, and just a ton of greenery in our backyard. This year it’s the worst I can remember and now I found maggots in our trash and in our pool(never seen this before). I’ve emptied my bin of every killer spray I had the last two days around the house. what can I buy to spray the yard, Hardscape, etc that won’t kill my bushes or dog to kill any/eggs/larvae for these fuckers? they’re driving my wife and I crazy. One positive is maybe she’ll be better about not throwing random shit in the outside garbage bins. Edit: I already fired two pest companies the last two years. Those guys suck. They swear they’re doing a good job and they don’t. I’m done with the save the environment shit. I was the shit that works.
Understanding Fly Problems in Your Yard Flies can be a significant nuisance in outdoor spaces, especially during warmer months. They are attracted to food sources, moisture, and decaying organic matter. Common types of flies include houseflies and fruit flies, which can carry diseases and contaminate food. Signs of Fly Infestation Swarms of Flies: Large numbers around food sources or trash. Flyspecks: Small spots of fly excrement near breeding areas. Maggots: Larvae found in garbage or compost. Effective Prevention Strategies Cleanliness Remove Food Sources: Keep outdoor dining areas clean. Clean up food scraps and spills immediately. Manage Waste: Use sealed trash bins and regularly clean them. Keep compost piles away from living areas. Eliminate Moisture: Fix leaks and remove standing water, which can attract flies. Natural Repellents Fly-Repelling Plants: Grow herbs like basil, mint, and lavender, which are known to deter flies. Essential Oils: Use sprays made from peppermint, eucalyptus, or citronella to repel flies. Traps and Barriers DIY Traps: Create traps using apple cider vinegar and dish soap to attract and trap flies. Physical Barriers: Use fly screens on doors and windows to prevent flies from entering your home. Additional Tips Pennies in Water: Place glasses of water with pennies around outdoor areas. This method may confuse flies, making them think they see larger predators. Encourage Natural Predators: Attract birds and bats to your yard, as they feed on flies. By implementing these strategies, you can significantly reduce fly populations in your yard and enjoy your outdoor space more comfortably.
Now that I'm older I thought you were talking about leaving it down after the restroom. It's a 50/50 proposition these days.
Yes. I’m ready to go full blown kerosene and a match. I’ve got a ton of lavender and shit around the planters because my wife likes the smell of it and it’s pretty. Shit don’t work.
We have two fly traps and they seem to work well. I have to replace the solution 1x/week, but it’s easy enough to do. These are the ones we have. https://a.co/d/hhJgKi9
Invite @auminer over with his work truck. The flies will appreciate the free ride to browner pastures.
we have chickens so we have flies. this thing works like a bomb. https://www.amazon.com/Victor-M380-...ef_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_1_ec_pd_nav_hcs_rp_1_t fair warning, it stinks. we have 2 outside and went from 5 flies in the house every day to zero.

To keep fruit flies and house flies under control I have been using Zevo products for a few years. https://zevoinsect.com/ The flying insect light traps work better than anything I have tried in my Kitchen, bath and Garage. There are a few offbrand versions out there that honestly work really will. The fly spray also works well when I park myself out on my deck. If the fruit flies that the local Kroger so generously supplies with my fresh fruit and vegetables get too annoying I will resort to an old trick of my mom's in putting an ounce or so if apple cider vinegar in a glass jar. I simple stretch cling wrap over the top of the jar and poke holes with a toothpick to make a trap. It seems to work at least as good as store bought Fruit fly traps like the ones below. https://www.terro.com/terro-fruit-fly-trap-t2502b
You could always ask @Steeltoe for recommendations on hungry, aggressive spiders skilled at hunting and making grown men scream like a bitch.
Get a Pulse Jet Thermal Fogger. They are pricey but the results are well worth it. Check out youtube thread. I have the Golden Eagle and live in the bug capital of the world.
Here in the land of cows 'n' plows, I've seen those fill up solid (Which looks really disgusting, but glad they work) to the top in a few days - they do work great.
You think it stinks now, wait til its completely full of dead flies Try hanging a ziplock bag full of water near by, all the Messican places here do it.
Man I've been reading about these fucking Joro spiders that followed me from FL and have made their way to SC on their way to NC and surely all over the trails I like to mountain bike in the fall.
yep. i told the wife to feed them back to the chickens. she can't do it. also got the refill sheets for the container. she just dumps the container in the trash. since i am a million miles away from recovering my ROI with these chickens, i just ignore it.
