I had one in pristine stock original shape with 3,000 miles. I could't get $5500 for it. Ended up taking it apart and selling it on Ebay piece by piece. Probably got $10K out of it.
I had the 84 VF1000F. Got into a tank slapper on it pinned in 3rd and yard saled it. Amazing I didn't die in that crash.
While the 84 VF1000f Interceptor was a better bike on the streets, that VF1000r was a very cool machine, but man was it heavy. I had both, wish I still had them.
I had one in the late 90s... a friend had it in boxes in the back of his garage from a crazy body repair/painter who was just supposed to fix a centerstand tip over ding/scratch. The dude stripped the thing down to 5 boxes of parts and delivered back to my buddy with a "fuck you" note. When I got it there were 1200ish miles on the clock. I put it back together with a Holeshot exhaust and some other components from Dave Dodge like the oil line, jet kit, etc. The bike ran fantastic for what it was... took it to the Hawks Nest and on that trip I saw 3 other minty looking VFs along the way. Even the Vtwin guys loved the sound when I made some dyno runs at a local shop.
