@Dave Wolfe and @motion you guys gotta help a brother out.

I'm not surprised sales have dropped a little bit, with him being retired, and some of the things he has been saying for the past few years. What surprises me is a 15% drop, to a still super high number of over 7 million in sales, causes a loss of 1 million. I wouldn't be surprised if he is still the highest grossing MotoGP merchandise rider.

what's kinda funny is how Michael Jordan is objectively an even bigger drunken douchebag than Rossi, and he hasn't had this problem haha

There's no way they're selling shirts and hats for what they do and still taking a loss. I'd bet that VR46 is only losing money on merch AFTER they've paid Rossi.

It is all a game of percentages .. Some coworkers, and I, played golf behind Jordan (and some of his NBA buddies) at Torrey Pines in the early 90’s.
I am certain that more money changed hands, during that round of golf, than I made that year …
It was an amusing (and illuminating !) way to spend the day.

agree with the cry me a river
Jordan is worth > 4 Billion and Rossi is (only!) worth ~ 200 million

If they only had .15% profit on 9 million revenue, either they are playing games with the numbers, or they're morons. Either way I wouldn't feel too sorry for them.

Who do you figure the shareholders are?

Maybe it's an (almost) not for profit enterprise? :p:D

I would guess a lot of the gross profit got eaten up by racing expenses, salaries, and dividends to "shareholders."

I think more people watch a single NBA game than a single MotoGP season.

That didn't come out how you meant it.

More people watch a single MotoGP race than a single MotoGP season too.

I was being tongue in cheek. What I was talking about was the difference in audience size between the NBA and MotoGP. A lazy google search implies that the viewership for the NBA is 600X the size of viewership for MotoGP in the US. This was related to the comment about MJ's apparel sales not falling off as much as Rossi's. There's also the whole Nike thing that MJ has in his favor. But what I was really pointing out is the size and reach disparity between the two sports.

Why is this a bummer anyway? Is @Boman Forklift a shareholder in VR46?

    Meh, it's a church. :D

And they had years making plenty of money. They're good. They just need to be smart enough to shut it down before too long, now that the product has self-destructed.

I'm still just absolutely crushed that MotoGP ceased to exist the moment he announced his retirement a few seasons ago. I really miss that series.
