USAA, if you have access. I was an adjuster in another life long ago, and they were 1000% the best to deal with. I swapped from State Farm back then and never looked back. Their rates are usually better, particularly if you have homeowners with them.

About the roof age: it affects the price of insurance. If your roof is old, its not covered as its past its life. If its new, they will cover roof repairs.

Make sure they have the correct roof replacement date or your newer roof wont be covered.

I just went through this last month. My wife had been with usaa since she got her license, and I went onto her policy when we got married. Granting that we have a bunch of vehicles, the newest one was 13 years old. We were paying over $3500 every six months. Shopped it and progressive came in at $2200 per six months. Usaa won’t even discuss reviewing their rates. They’ll offer a discount if you put their tracking app on your phone and on your vehicles, but that is it. I fully expect I will change insurance companies again within two years.

Get a declaration page from your current provider, white out their name and the rates for each line item of coverage and use that when getting quotes. It's real easy for the agent to manipulate the quote based on the levels of coverage.

For auto, I just renewed yesterday with Progressive and it was about $50 less than last time.

I bounce between Geico and Progressive on the auto.

That's who I have had for several years now (USAA) and when I switched I never had a "roof age" questionnaire...just saying.

Here is kicker...each insurance company has a way to protect themselves and make home owners pay the most for damage/ like a new roof. Never file a claim until you know your policy specifics. Mistake I made was we had wind damage which caused a leak. Roof is old (20 yrs plus) so I started the claims process only to find out a new roof is gonna cost me a huge out of pocket deductible if its not hail. ($6700) They came...inspectors said not hail:rolleyes:

I canceled the claim and called a roofing friend. For $400 and a couple visits he found the leak and fixed it.

This is what happens when you let attorneys outside of their silos...
A properly installed shingled roof will last an easy 20+ years. If my insurer wants to cancel my policy... have at it. No harm no loss.

Agree, but if your in the wind or hail zone you may not make it 15. Just north of me they have hammered a couple times with large hail.
I have a 3 tab builders grade shingle and they do okay for wind. Also, they are the most common here in Texas so easily replaced for cheap if you have some wind damage.

The 3D is better grade but most likely will cost more.

Make sure the coverages are identical. Progressive leans towards higher risk drivers, so if there are any dings/tickets on your record then that would explain it.

She's paying for wildfires and storm damage just like the rest of us. Insurance is real close to a legalized Mob in operation.

When it is time again to replace it look into the newer products that are made from recycled tire rubber. Much more impact resistant than a traditional asphalt shingle. Not quite as attractive looking but the benefits might outweigh the constant repairs to asphalt shingles.

The shingles are the secondary water resistance and not much 3 tab gets used in FL. After those named storms last year that went through the FL gulf & into GA... you could see all the jackleg shingle roofing going on alongside 75. The shingles were long gone but the primary resistance barrier was still in place. The FL Bldg commission actually relaxed the building roofing underlayment codes for the current cycle.
We have those predatory "hail damage" claim shysters milling about. I caught one on my neighbors roof trying to file a claim on a 3 yr old roof.

I use local, independent agents in both states I own property. They shop the various companies they represent and find me the best rates.

Been with one agency for about 34 years now, though he just sold his agency, retaining the family name and location.
My family has been through a lot of changes over the years raising my kids and we became close friends, as he took care of all my various insurance needs over the years He was just buying the agency from his Dad when I first switched my coverage there.

Not as of Monday. We have a friend who hit a deer 2 days after it went down and the claims process has been a mess.

All of our stuff is through Acuity, they had the best rates when I shopped them a couple of years ago. I insure three trucks, one car and six motorcycles with them. No one else comes close to beating their price.
