I grew up in a suburb of Peoria IL, so I know it gets hot and humid back there and then Super cold. But midwestern people are great.

When I was selling software in the 80’s -00’s the Midwest was always my favorite territory. For the most part people shot you straight. You could shake on a deal and know you had a deal. West coast and east coast people/transactions were not that way. Unless you were dealing with midwesterners or people raised properly from other areas.

Ive told this story before. First time I came to California was for July 4th and I watched the fireworks on the beach. I believe in San Clemente or Laguna?

Anyway, I’m freezing my ass off shivering, in shorts and a T-shirt. My friends said you are from Illinois why are you freezing? I said, “in the middle of the summer it is supposed to be hot and humid, none of this getting down to 60 and having to put on a sweatshirt or jacket.” Love that weather now.
 
If you ever find yourself in Switzerland, you should tour a watch making factory. One of my companies Engineering facilities are there and I have been lucky enough to visit a couple times. A local co-worker took me and a customer I was hosting on a watch tour of https://www.schwarz-etienne.ch/. Was a great tour. The Watches started at about $8k and just went up from there. Each watch has a piece of the Matterhorn mountain (the real one not Disneyland) on the backside.

This city is known for watch makers.

La Chaux-de-Fonds" is a major city in the canton of Neuchâtel, famous for its UNESCO-listed watchmaking architecture and rich museum history. It sits in the Jura Mountains, just a few miles south of the French border, and is easily accessible by train or car from larger Swiss hubs like Lausanne and Bern


But if you go, dont speed! I got multiple camera speed trap tickets sent to me when I got home. Expensed them of course.

I am more of a imitation watch guy, buy a counterfeit Bulgari watch while I am in China or Malaysia for about $80. Although my GF just bought me a really nice watch now that my fake Bulgari crapped out after some years.
 
So I learned while I wan over there last week that swiss watch makers are unionized.....I mean the guys with the tools in there hands that assemble movements at movement makers or watch brands belong to a union of sorts and their work hours are heavily regulated. I am not sure if it is a union like over here, per se but there are some regulation on work hours etc if you are a watch maker

Almost everything work wise over there is regulated like that. The German company i work for is a pain in the ass to the point that colleagues have to get special permission to work on the weekends if they are over here for a tradeshow or customer visits. They even have to get permission to stay late and do a conference call with us if it involves a west coast customer. It's crazy but at the same time, I'm a little jealous.
 
Yes it seemed weird the regulations, like the worker could choose when to show up...There was no way to say you have to be to work at 8am -- they can say you have to arrive between 8am and 9 am, and it seemed like the watch makers were governed different than the rest of the employees
