Little too much going on with that one. What's the deal with the ring that you can turn around the bezel? Is that for keeping time when diving or what?

I've lost a few pairs of Oakleys in the water and I was blinded by rage each time. I couldn't imagine losing a nice watch. I'm going scuba diving if that ever happens.
 
About 25 years ago, in better times, my Dad bought my Mom a lady Datejust Tridor to celebrate selling his company. It was a "thank you" for being the organizer, accountant, and records keeper for all of his crazy pursuits starting with him quitting his job as a mechanic and buying a tow-truck back in 1967. The Rolex was her only piece of jewelry of any value, and she wore it every single day for 20 years.

The last six or seven years have not been kind to my parents financially, so when my mom dropped her watch off the bathroom counter and shattered the crystal, damaged the face and hands, and lost some of the diamonds she was devastated. She couldn't afford to have it fixed so it sat in a drawer for 5 years.

When I visited my folks in October I swiped it from their house and took it to the watchmaker at my local AD. This is Mom's Christmas present, her "new" old watch:


I know it's a ladies Rolex, but anyone here who's ever been sentimental about a watch, or anyone who knows the rarity of a Tridor will get it.
 
Damn you, DaveK--screw me if I wasn't out ogling that stupid blue Milguass and the green sub. IMO, the green sub is a cooler watch, but that blue... Damn you, DaveK.....

check out the other watch forums for ideas, I've only been a few times but never seen anything that I considered 'wow thats a good deal' but then I've been opportunistic so didnt really engage for a hardcore negotiation with something in mind. But there's a gazillion watch porn shops there, good luck. Pretty sure the prem watch shops at the airport are up for negotiation though if you fail in the city.

Not set on a specific model, it has to please me and be a good deal.

I will go look at some replicas too just for giggles. Looked up a lot of vids on youtube how to spot them, to not step into that trap. Rather no buy then...

What i've found in general, after looking over the interwebs all weekend since Thanksgiving, jomashop is hard to beat. After that comes the forums and the used watch listings.

But the choices knock me out.
So i'm trying to narrow it down right now.

The problem with watch lust is that it's insatiable. I became friends with the owner of a shop in Jamaica years ago. I was on my annual vacation, picking up what was my dream watch at the time. I was feeling good about it until he said "I have to show you something", and pulled out a Patek 5270. :wow:

That was demoralizing. It made me realize that I'll never afford to win at this game. I bought the one I was there for anyway...:D

JBraun: I'm not a SS/ Gold Rolex fan and definitely not a diamond version fan but your mom's is silly. :up: Really dig the story behind it also.
 
Finally this thread did something for me instead of making me realize I need to make more money if I wanna hang around... ordered a Seiko007. I have a Tag F1 as my go-to and my only real decent watch, but I'm really digging the cheap Seiko and it's history.
 
I'm falling in serious like with a nearby used Rolex Sea Dweller DEEPSEA that's being offered a bunch below retail. Only a year old.

Heard a rumor about an upcoming GMT coming out in a black w blue half bezel tho.

Both would look great next to my existing Rolex collection.

My latest, Graham Silverstone GMT. It's an great look, not too big--extremely nice watch for the price point--my new every-day.
