I raised an eyebrow at the black sub until I found out it was a "custom". It's like custom painting a Ferrari. It's blasphemous, and I'm really not even a Rolex guy.

On an unrelated note, does anyone have a good parts source for Baume and Mercier? I need a half-link for my Capeland chrono, and there are no dealers near me.
 
Maybe some insight from the BBS watch geeks. Going to get Sam's nephew a watch for his Kollege graduation and I'm all over the place. Tag Heuer F1, an Oris diver, a Hamilton automatic aviation or something else? Good kid (not a kid anymore really) and he's never had a watch. I think a good "tool" watch would something that could serve him for a few decades so I'm leaning towards the Oris automatic with a ruber strap.

Thoughts and insights? Before you say Rolex, Patek or Jaeger LeCoultre, I like the kid but not that much. :D
 
I have no idea what they make these days. Haven't had one on my wrist 2002. But that's as expensive as I used to wear. :D

Swatch oddly enough has turned into a pretty big company that owns a lot of other brands, I was just being funny since one of them is Tissot - the MotoGP sponsor watch.

I'm serious. I have no idea what 95% of what's in this thread is. I may have owned a couple dozen Swatches at some point, but I was not into expensive watches. Except for one lousy purchase I regretted within days.
 
The Swatch group owns Omega, Blancpain, Glashütte, Tissot and Hamilton amongst others. They also own ETA who makes the movements for some even bigger brands. Swatch ain't no joke. :) and I'll be getting Lawson a swatch when I'm over in June.

Oh, I get it but had to have some fun with you. Some people just don't know or care about watches. I'm into them because them take up almost no space and I just dig the movements on some automatics. I can't collect motorcycles, lost all interest in shot guns years ago and I have no space for the 911 I wanted for decades (but don't want anymore).

I think you told me what your regret watch was and if I remember right, it's no joke. :up:
 
Yeap, a 930 or 964. :) A 911 was always one of my carrots to work for but now that I could swing either or those or a 997 or a 991 I just don't want one. I like my shitty little 5 doors too much.
 
Anyone know what the power reserve is for a GMT? Tourneau rep said it was 72 hours. No such luck even with a full wind. Never more than 24 hours. Annoying to have to reset it Monday morning. Might be time to replace it with a quartz...

I don't think I mentioned that one. I may have mentioned the Rolex that was passed down from my grandfather to my dad and to me. There is no way I would buy something that expensive (although it was a very basic model).
The piece of junk that I bought when I was young and foolish was a Cartier. I was with an uppity chick who was into that shit. :D

p.s. My grandfather bought me my first Swatch when I was around 14. There wasn't a time in my life than that when I didn't know at least one.

Guessing it's a ETA movement... Realistically between 20 - 30 hrs as it comes from the factory. Unless it's had a full service and a tune up from someone who knows what their doing (few and far between...), then I'd say 40+ hrs. Do you have a auto winder or does it lay on the nightstand?

Rolex GMT II? Should be "around" 72 but it can be anywhere in the 48 ~ 96. If you're getting only a day then take it in and get it serviced. That's strange.

That, to me, is the way you should get a Rolex, Patek or most high end watches. Handed down and it's a reason to get a "grand" watch. My Dad didn't care about high end watches (for the most part) but I did learn to be a hoarder from him. lol!

Getting into any brand like Swatch that way is cool as heck. Give me a $60 watch that way and I'll take it over a faceless TAG or Omega. :)

Finally, Cartier? Know how we know You're gay? :D
