20k for a ring?!?!! Ouch!! If the ring is 20k what's your wedding budget looking like? Me and the wife to be have planned somewhat of a budget wedding, and I almost threw up when I saw the final number
My cousin is a jeweler, http://allardjewelers.com/ he can pretty much make any setting you want, for a heck of a lot less than Tiffanys. his custom stuff is really nice.
It doesn't matter where you get the stone. Pawn shop, garage sale, outta someone's ass... who cares. A diamond is a commodity to everyone involved except the chick who attaches an emotional aspect to it. Just don't tell her where you got it. Take the stone to a good custom jeweler (not those bozos in the mall) and have the setting that she likes made. It's not nearly as expensive as it sounds. It's probably much cheaper than your mall jewelry.
Our wedding/honeymoon will be she and I on a virgin island beach. And we're talking engagement ring, not wedding band.
NICE!!! I wish I could convince her to do something like that. But she wants to get married in a church and has a decent amount of family... I spent a third of what you spent on an engagement ring and it's still a hard pill to swallow. I always calculate how many tires, how much ammo, how many beers I could of bought with that...oh well, it's worth it. and oh, congrats!!
If you find someone to do a custom job, great. Another option is to search for "inspired by Tiffany Bezet Princess setting." Here is one that came up that looks similar, though I know nothing of the company: http://www.exceldiamonds.com/-Engag...nd-Engagement-Ring-Replica--CME2576-1925.html There are others, but you get the idea.
I thought I would also add: My wife (then fiancée) went to the store with me where I purchased the ring so that she could have it cleaned. The guy behind the counter was like, "Oh, were you able to get this when it was on special for $XXXX?" I was like, seriously, man? What kind of idiot does that in front of the woman wearing the ring?
